Data sources

Last updated:

Different parts of the site use different kinds of information. Dates and coverage vary: the latest date on one dataset does not make every figure or analysis current.

Financial statements and company documents

Company annual reports and other available filings are the underlying sources for reported financial statements. We extract and organise the figures for comparison and analysis. Available filings and data-provider feeds can differ in timing and coverage.

Open a company's Documents tab to inspect the reports linked to that company. The source document, reporting period, currency and units matter when checking a number. You can browse companies to find their pages.

The configured fundamentals refresh checks published companies weekly. Figures change when new or revised source information is available and processed, not simply because a week has passed. This is not a promise that every company has a complete history or that every filing is processed immediately.

End-of-day prices

Prices are licensed end-of-day price data, not live dealing quotes.

The daily price-refresh job is scheduled after African market closes. Weekends, market holidays, provider delays and failed refreshes can leave the most recent stored session unchanged.

Check the close date displayed alongside a price. It may differ from today's date. Historical adjustments and differences in provider coverage can also affect comparisons.

Corporate events

Company announcements, including publications on issuer websites, supply information about dividends, meetings and results. Calendar entries link to supporting source material where available.

The configured calendar check runs daily. An event may be added, revised or cancelled after an announcement is processed. Expected dates are not the same as confirmed dates, and a calendar is not a guarantee that every issuer announcement has been captured.

For a decision that depends on an event date, consult the supporting announcement and the issuer's latest information.

Foreign-exchange reference data

Stored cross-currency valuation conversions use European Central Bank reference rates where supported. The configured refresh runs on weekdays after the expected reference-rate publication; holidays and unavailable currency pairs can leave gaps.

Display-currency comparisons also use a public ExchangeRate-API reference feed. A separate currency-market feed supplies the USD/KES reference display where used. These display fetches have a one-hour cache; caching more frequently does not mean that the underlying source publishes hourly.

Reference rates are for comparison, not amounts at which you can transact. They may differ from bank, broker or payment-provider rates.

Analysis and qualitative evidence

The analysis combines reported figures with the inputs described in How we score. Business Quality can use dated, cited reporting and enabled company-disclosure evidence.

The weekly analysis job checks changed inputs and has processing limits. It is separate from daily price and calendar updates. New prices do not mean that every section of an analysis has been rewritten.

Check a source or report a problem

Use the source links, reporting periods and update dates before comparing figures. Currency, unit, consolidated-versus-company basis and revisions can explain apparent differences.
